Junior news

We have a coaching programme in place as part of the West Berkshire Community Coaching initiative, supported by Berkshire LTA. The programme covers all ages for groups and individual sessions and can be booked directly with Lauren Bryett. Lauren is currently coaching in Hungerford on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Plans for 2008

Road to Wimbledon under 14 tournament

We have entered this national tournament for under 14's again this year. Nine boys have entered our club round of the event so far, but we are still able to accept entries, so sign up quickly!

Tom will be organising the tournament for us again on Monday and Tuesday 9th and 10th June. We are hoping to start as soon as possible after school, until 6pm. Depending on the weather and the length of matches we may need to play the final on Saturday 14th June.

A great two days of after school tennis... and it was sunny! The group stages were held on the Monday

Tues was the semi-finals......

  • Harry Kanisius-Pocock v Geren Scarlett 4/0 4/0
  • Harry Russell v Harry Morgan 4/0 4/0

......and then the final between

  • Harry KP and Harry R which Harry KP won 4/0 4/0

This means that Harry KP progresses to the county finals day at Wellington College on 6th July and Harry R goes to the runners up day at Wellington on the 5th. Good luck to both boys.

National Junior Club league

Results so far....
All teams have started their league matches well.

The U12's travelled to Bradfield College and although they lost their matches both boys played well and had lots of games going to deuce. Next match is Sat 7th June at home to Racqueteers. Well done Jake and Harry.

The U16's played Magnet Tennis Club in Maidenhead and had a really good win 2-1, despite the rain breaks. Their next match is away to Woodlands in Tilehurst. Well done Matt and Sam.

The U18's had a bye against Ascot and won their match away against URTC 3-1. Their next match is at home on Sun 8th June against Crowthorne. Well done to Richard and Tom.

More plans/thoughts....

    Junior club championships/ Adult and Junior American tournament/ Junior box leagues/friendly matches with local clubs so that we can give our juniors who are new to competition some match practice.
